Site No 161 - Sulflor

Sulflor is a large private nursery/garden centre just 2km outside Moncarapacho that Ekart (the German owner) has built from nothing to an impresive business in the past thirty years. It started badly when after buying he found that the sellers, despite being fronted by no less a figure than Stuart Grainger, had no title to the land and therefore no right to sell. It was over ten years before they were granted title and able to take possession, since when they have built an impressive house, holiday accomodation and acre upon acre of greenhouses filled with the most healthy and exquisit plants that they sell, both wholesale and retail from the premises.

Hoping to retire mid 2016, Ekard hopes to sell the business as a going concern but retain the freehold of all the land and property etc. Being a “busy, busy, busy” type of person he wants to get a campsite up and running to give himself a retirement hobby.

We were the very first customers for the “camp site”, I use the inverted commas because it is not so much a camp site as a collection of spaces dotted around the nursery where a caravan or motor-home could be sited. Our pitch is outside the main gates to the house very imposing, water is connected direct to the Aquaroll, electricity is 16 amp and grey water is discharged direct into a flood ditch.

Showers and toilets, while a bit distant, are kept clean and provided with all the necessities It would seem that Sulflor had everything going for it and it has; except for a dedicated black water (sewage) disposal point. Although plans are in place to install a septic tank system for the caravan and camping car residents this is a few months down the road and for now toilet waste is diposed of on the (admittedly remote) compost heap, not so much of a problem for us (our loo is used for night time tiddles only) and although for Brits, Germans, Dutch and the French the weather feels warm and pleasant it is of coursel winter so not many flies etc., what it would be like in August I shudder to think.

Other than the current method of black water disposal this is a site that I would certainly recommend and to which we will probably return at some time in the future.
